8 Things every pet owner should KNOW

Dr. David Arceo of Pooch Park shares with us important tips and advice on how to be better pet owners.

YOUR DOG DEPENDS ON YOU. It is important for pet owners, being the dominant figure to make them feel their dogs comfortable and secure. Human Active Presence supplies them the companionship and care they need hence, make sure to spend at least several hours of your day with them..

DOG NEUTRING IS SAFE. Neutring is a simple surgical removal of the reproductive organs of animals. It is more commonly known as "spaying", the removal of ovary and uterus in female dogs and castration, the removal of testis in males. Through this procedure, their chances of having various hormonal and cancerous diseases as well as production of unwanted pets are reduced.

A PUPPY IS JUST LIKE A NEW BORN HUMAN BEING. Combined vaccines, booster shots, anti-rabies and anti Kennelcough vaccines should be well monitored and maintained. These injections protect them from infections and contagious disease. When feeding your pups, always check the label. It must have sufficient amount of nutrients and minerals such as phosphorous and calcium for strong bone development. Chicken, Salmon, and Lamb are also good source of protein. To keep them active, feed them with dog food rich in carbohydrate, fat and oils. Human prepared food or table foods should be avoided.

KEEP YOUR PET WELL-GROOMED.
Coat. Shampoos with biotin are good for dry skin while Panthenol adds shine to the coat. Proper diet with omega fatty acids and Vitamin E also contribute to your dog's beauty and radiance.

Ears. when cleaning their ears, be sure to use ear solutions and gently swab the entire area underneath the ear flaps.

Teeth. You will need a special kind of toothbrush and toothpaste. Brush their teeth in circular motion and be certain to include the back part of the teeth and tongue. Bring them to the vet for dental check-up at least twice a year.

Negative People

You may have friends who complain about everything, classmates who always find fault in you, and people who just seem to have a dark cloud on top of their head. Don't allow yourself to absorb their bad vibes. Stay positive and tell yourself that you will have a good day no matter what anyone says.

Eating breakfast in the morning

Eating a breakfast containing protein and carbohydrates sometime between 6 to 10 am will not only nourish your metabolism, it'll also fuel your various systems and brain - increasing your ability to concentrate and retain knowledge in class.

Diabetes may slow mental function

Are you experiencing a slowdown each time you are about to say something? Each time you have to remember a particular incident? Beware it might be Diabetes.
In an analysis published by the American Psychological Association in journal Neuropsychology, adults diagnosed with diabetes have a slowdown in mental processing. this was revealed after researchers examined a cross - section of adults with and without adult - onset type 2 diabetes. It was followed by a Victoria Longitudinal study and after three long years, the tracked three independent samples of initially healthy order adults to record discrepancies in their biomedical, health, cognitive, and neurocognitive aspects of aging.
The study by researchers from Canada's University of Alberta involved 41 adults with diabetes and 424 adults without diabetes, between ages 53 and 90. The diabetes group had normal reaction times and normal perceptual speed but was slower on tasks requiring rapid and precise processing of new verbal information. The defects involved speed and not verbal fluency. The good news is the performance gap did not worsen with age. This suggests that the reduction in main function and speed of mental process begins earlier in the disease.
According to coauthor Roger Dixon, PhD, the normal age at which our mental processes would slow down could be intensified by diseases like type 2 diabetes. "In proper management and early treatment these declines would be avoided" he said.
Admittedly, the finding in the said study are not clinically significant, however, researchers claim that these could foreshadow additional deficits.
